Shubman Gill registered his first victory as India's Test captain, beating England by a massive 336 runs at Edgbaston, Birmingham. This was India's first Test win at the venue and Gill himself crafted  the win for India by piling tall figures with the bat. Leading the show from front, he tumbled multiple records, including that of batting legends Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virat Kohli, by notching a double ton and a century in the two innings. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep also stepped up in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, and combined to scalp 17 wickets out of the total 20. Siraj returned with six wickets in the first essay and Akash Deep registered the same number of scalps in the second.

The outcome saw India come back on level terms in the five-match series, now squared at 1-1. India dominated the show for almost all five days barring for the one and half session on Day 3, which saw wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith and Harry Brook produce a ruthless Bazball display.

Meanwhile, Gill's 269 and 161 helped India pile a massive 587 in the first innings, and 427/6 declared in the second. The gigantic first innings score helped India take a healthy 180-run advantage as England were folded for 407 in the first innings. They were eventually handed a 608-run target after India declared their second innings an hour after the Tea break. Akash Deep and Siraj like the first innings, gave India an excellent start and continued the fine show on the final day. Their efforts helped India skittle the hosts for 271.

England began the final day at 73/3 but folded quickly under pressure as Indian bowlers maintained their stranglehold. Akash Deep dismissed Ollie Pope (24) and Harry Brook (23) in the morning session. Washington Sundar dealt another decisive blow by trapping England captain Ben Stokes LBW right at the stroke of Lunch.

India needed seven wickets on the final day and they wrapped it up clinically before the end of the final session. With this emphatic win, India have not only leveled the series but also sent a strong statement of their dominance heading into the next Test, which starts from July 10 at Lord's.
