Virat Kohli reached another milestone in ODI cricket as he became the quickest batter to reach 14,000 runs in the format. The former India skipper achieved the feat in the ICC Champions Trophy encounter against Pakistan in Dubai. Kohli in the process also beat batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who had eclipsed the mark in his 350th innings as compared to Kohli's 287.
Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara is the other batter to breach the milestone. He had achieved the same in his 378th innings.
Coming back to Kohli, the modern day great chose the perfect occasion to achieve the landmark and he did it in some elegance by playing his signature cover drive against Haris Rauf. He began the match 15 runs short from the milestone.

Kohli is also the fastest to every 1000-run milestone since he breached the 8000-run tally, which he did in 175 innings back in June 2017. The 36-year-old also holds the record for most centuries in the format, beating Tendulkar's 49 in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Kohli has 50 hundreds under his belt.
Meanwhile, Kohli earlier became the Indian player with most catches in ODIs. Kohli overtook Mohammad Azharuddin's tally on 156, when he caught Naseem Shah running in from the long-on fence.

Meanwhile, a clinical show by the bowlers helped India bundle out Pakistan for 241 after the latter won the toss and opted to bat. Brilliant fielding and economical bowling contributed to Pakistan's annihilation. Kuldeep Yadav returned with three scalps, while Hardik Pandya claimed two. Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja scalped a wicket each.
A defeat for Pakistan will virtually shut their doors in the semifinal race.
