In cricket, getting out hit wicket is a somewhat uncommon method of dismissal and in the second ODI against England at Lord's, South Africa batter Tristan Stubbs came very close to suffering that fate. Even though Stubbs played the shot properly, his bat flew out of his own hand and landed inches next to the stumps when he faced a delivery from England pacer Saqib Mahmood.
Stubbs had to scurry to keep his bat from hitting the stumps, but he finally had a fortunate break and was able to stop it. The bat popped out of Stubbs' hand awkwardly just as he was about to hit his shot. Fortunately for him, though, the bat bounced twice on the ground. Stubbs was able to grab a good grip on the bat after the second bounce and stop any more damage.

South Africa amassed 330 runs in the first innings thanks to Stubbs, who plays for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), smashing 58 runs off 62 balls.
After a five-run victory in the second match, which was preceded by a record-breaking 85 from Matt Breetzke at Lord's, South Africa secured the ODI series against England with one game remaining on Thursday.
Breetzke became the only player in ODI history to make at least a half-century in his first five games after being brought into the Proteas side to replace the injured Wiaan Mulder.
Stubbs' 58 and opener Aiden Markram's 49 were complemented by the 26-year-old middle-order batsman's 77-ball knock.
"It was a more than competitive score. I definitely would have taken that when we were three wickets down," Proteas captain Temba Bavuma said.
England needed 16 runs in the last over with one wicket left, some brilliant hitting from tailender Jofra Archer (27 off 14 balls) got the home team close but they fell short and finished at 325/9.
