The India–Pakistan Asia Cup Super Four clash on Sunday (September 21) saw tempers boil over as emotions ran high on the field. First, Shubman Gill found himself in a verbal exchange with Shaheen Shah Afridi, and almost immediately after, his opening partner Abhishek Sharma was involved in a heated confrontation with Haris Rauf. The back-to-back flare-ups highlighted the intensity of the high-stakes encounter, with both sides unwilling to take a step back.
The flashpoint came during the third over of India’s innings, which was also Shaheen Shah Afridi’s second. The left-arm pacer ended up conceding back-to-back boundaries — first when a slower ball was lofted over mid-off, and then on the final delivery of the over, when the batter advanced down the track and hammered it over the covers.

The frustration in the Pakistan camp was understandable as neither bowler seemed to find an answer to the Indian openers’ onslaught. Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma capitalized on every scoring opportunity, punishing loose deliveries and refusing to let the pressure drop during the Powerplay.

Their aggressive stroke play not only kept the scoreboard racing but also forced Pakistan’s fielders on the back foot. The momentum they generated carried well beyond the initial overs, with the partnership eventually soaring past the 100-run mark, leaving the opposition searching for breakthroughs.
