India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has opened up about his recovery process at the newly established Centre of Excellence (CoE) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The batsman is focused on recovering from a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen, with hopes of making his comeback during the 2025 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Suryakumar had a poor home series against England, scoring a maximum of 14 runs in five innings while amassing 28 runs at an average of 5.60 and a strike rate of 116.66. The right-handed batter, who reached the 600-run milestone for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, will hope to maintain the same rhythm and form with the bat.

“Feeling good. It’s been a good process for five to six weeks. It actually got diagnosed during the IPL. I got to know that because I had this injury before. Very checkups, and then I did an MRI, which was clear of a requirement for surgery. I went to Germany, and post IPL, I did it. I was prepared for the recovery and took one week at a time,” SKY said in a video shared by the BCCI on their official X handle.
Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma will open the batting and Surya will bat at number four. Jitesh Sharma will bat in the lower order and take on the task of keeping wickets, while Tilak Verma, a left-handed batsman, will bat at number three.

“The most important thing for me, as I was at NCA last year as well, is that they understand how my body reacts to certain situations. All the body strengthening coaches and physios understand that. They planned all the instant workouts. Slowly but steadily, we are here as we took one week at a time,” the Mumbai Indians batter observed.

“This CoE is massive. More than 30-35 people can train together in the gym. Some of the new equipment is really good for rehab. There are nearly 60-70 wickets to practice at the ground, so that any contracted player can come and train here for about a week. Unbelievable facility that I have seen for a very long time,” SKY concluded.
