Smriti Mandhana showed great flair in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup between India and Australia on Sunday. Albeit a defeat, Mandhana certainly impressed with the start she provided after India were invited to bat first by Australia.

The 29-year-old smacked 80 off 66 balls, which enabled her to complete 5000 runs in Women's ODIs. Mandhana achieved the milestone in 112 innings, which is the fastest by any Indian. She overtook Virat Kohli in the process, who had achieved the same in 114 innings.

In the overall list comprising both men and women, Mandhana is only behind Pakistan's premier batter Babar Azam, who took 97 innings, and South Africa great Hashim Amla, who took 101 innings to reach the milestone.

Meanwhile, Mandhana has maintained a good lead among the women as West Indies' Stafanie Taylor, who is second in the list, took 129 innings to reach 5000 ODI runs. New Zealand's Suzie Bates in 136 innings, India's Mithali Raj in 144 innings, and England's Charlotte Edwards in 146 innings are third, fourth, and fifth in the list.

Meanwile, Mandhana also became the first batter to cross 1000 ODI runs in women's cricket in a calendar year. Heading into the clash with 982 runs, she had already broke Australia's Belinda Clark record of highest runs in a calendar year in women's ODIs. Clark had scored 970 runs back in 1997.

Mandhana has so far accumulated 1,062 runs in 18 innings this year at an average of 59.00 and a strike-rate of 112.85. She has slammed four centuries and the same number of half-centuries. Her last five innings against Australia are: 105, 58, 117, 125 and now 80, making her the only batter to register five consecutive 50-plus scores against Australia Women in ODIs.

Meanwhile, Annabel Sutherland also reached a personal milestone by taking her 50th wicket in Women's ODIs, finishing with career-best figures of 5/40 in this match.
