Shubman Gill has the last laugh, hunts for journalist who questioned India's chances at Edgbaston - WATCH

After the win, Shubman Gill was seen looking for a particular journalist—the same one who had reminded him of India's dismal record at Edgbaston.

After leading India to his first Test victory as captain, Shubman Gill appeared calm and self-assured at the post-match press conference—just as composed at the mic as he was with the bat on the field. At Edgbaston, Gill delivered a monumental performance, amassing 430 runs in the match and playing a pivotal role in India’s remarkable comeback in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Interestingly, after the match, Gill was seen looking for a particular journalist—the same one who had reminded him of India's dismal record at Edgbaston following their heavy defeat in the series opener. Despite scoring over 800 runs, India had lost the first Test, and their last nine outings at the venue had all ended in defeat. Before the second Test, the journalist had pointedly brought up those bleak stats, perhaps as a challenge. Gill, it seems, hadn’t forgotten.

"I can't see my favourite journalist. Where is he? I wanted to see him," Gill said, a friendly smile lighting up his face.

"I even said before the Test match that I don't really believe in history and stats. Over the last 56 years or so, we've played nine matches - different teams have come here. I believe we are the best team to have come here in England, and we have the capability to beat them, to win the series from here. If we keep making the right decisions and keep fighting, I think it would be one of the series to remember," he added.

What makes India's historic win even more impressive is that they did it without their number 1 bowler - Jasprit Bumrah. Gill led from the front with historic knocks 269 and 161, showing his teammates how it's done at the highest level with class.

Even the bowling unit stepped up to support his side. Many experts had wrote off India's chances to win the second Test after Bumrah was missing from the lineup. However, Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj had other plans. The duo dismantled the England batting lineup with Siraj setting the tone in the first innings with a six-wicket haul and Deep finishing with 10 wickets in the match.

"I think I said this before the match as well - this Indian team is one of the best to have toured England. The best 16 are chosen to play for the country. I believe all our bowlers have the ability to chip in at any time and help us take 20 wickets. Definitely, Jasprit bhai is one of the best bowlers in the world. But regardless of that, any bowling unit of ours can take 20 wickets anywhere - and this was an example of that," Gill said about the bowling performance.
