Having already retired from Test and T20Is, India skipper Rohit Sharma's future in the 50-over format has become a hot topic among fans and experts. Reports have emerged of Rohit and Virat Kohli's ODI future appearing uncertain as both have hung their boots from the two formats mentioned. While nothing official has been mentioned on the subject it'll be interesting to see if the duo can make the cut for the next World Cup, which is set to be played in 2027.
Amidst the chatter, India's swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has shared a video, adding more fuel to the topic. Pant shared a video of Team India's wild celebration post the Champions Trophy triumph earlier this year in Dubai. "Happy Independence Day, India. Some moments stay with you forever and winning for India is at the top of the list. Proud to be Indian," Pant wrote on X.

The video, which features almost all the Indian stars, including Virat Kohli, also catches an interesting conversation between the skipper and the wicketkeeper. Rohit, who is seen holding a stump, is asked by Pant: “Bhaiya, ye stump leke kahaan jaa rahe ho? (Brother where are you taking the stump?)”
Rohit, who had previously announced retirement from T20Is after leading India to the World T20 title in 2024, in jest quips: “Kya? Retirement le lu? Har baar jeetenge to har baar thodi retirement leta rahunga. (What? I should announce retirement? I won't announce retirement every time when we win.)”
To this, Pant laughed and said: “Hum to chahte hain khelo (We want you to play).”

Under Rohit's captaincy India not only managed to end their over a decade drought in ICC tournaments, but enjoyed two successful campaigns. He then took part in the IPL but midway during the competition announced his retirement from the Test format.
With the focus now on T20Is as the World Cup approaches, talks about Rohit's future in Indian colours have intensified.
