RCB retained players 2025: Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) retention list had quite a few notable absentees as the franchise opted to retain just three players ahead of the mega auctions. Virat Kohli was one of the obvious picks as he was retained for Rs 21 crore. The other two players retained were Rajat Patidar for Rs 11 crore, and uncapped Yash Dayal for Rs 5 crore.

As per a report in Times of India, Kohli is all set to be reappointed as the team skipper in IPL 2025. The talismanic batter has previously led the franchise from 2013 to 2021, during which RCB reached the playoffs on four occasions, and managed a runners-up finish in 2016.

"We understand the curiosity surrounding the RCB captaincy and want to assure our fans that we are exploring all options. Our retention strategy not only lays a solid foundation for our upcoming lineup but also offers us the flexibility to make strategic decisions during the auctions. We are committed to building a team that reflects our ambitions and excites our fans," Prathmesh Mishra, chairman of RCB, was quoted as saying in an official press release.

However, the franchise did let go of several T20 stars, which include Australia's Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green. Mohammed Siraj is another notable absentee from the RCB camp.

RCB will enter the mega auction, which is reported to be held towards the end of November, with a purse value of Rs 83 crore and will have three RTM (right-to-match) options left.

“We are thrilled to retain Yash Dayal, an extraordinary talent whose career is on an upward trajectory. His unique ability as a left-arm bowler, capable of swinging the ball in both directions, adds a valuable dimension to our bowling attack—one that is increasingly rare in the auction landscape. Having witnessed Yash's impressive performance last season, we are eager to secure this crucial role and support his continued development as a key player for RCB” highlighted, Andy Flower, head coach of RCB, in the same release.

The ex-Zimbabwe cricketer added: "Rajat Patidar is a key member of our squad. His exceptional talent and resilience have already made a significant impact on our team, and he truly embodies the spirit of RCB. We are excited to see him continue to develop and shine in the upcoming season."
