According to Hindu Panchang, Durga Visarjan should be performed either during Pratahkala (morning time) or Aparahna (afternoon period) while Dashami Tithi is prevailing. If both Dashami Tithi and Shravana Nakshatra coincide during Aparahna, that Muhurat is considered more auspicious.

Rituals of Durga Visarjan 2025

  • Morning Puja: Devotees perform the last puja of Goddess Durga with offerings of flowers, fruits, sweets, and prayers.
  • Sindoor Khela: In many regions, especially Bengal, married women celebrate by applying sindoor (vermillion) on Maa Durga and to each other, marking prosperity and strength.
  • Aarti and Prayers: Devotees chant mantras and perform aarti before taking the idol for immersion.
  • Immersion Ceremony: The idol of Maa Durga is carried in processions accompanied by drums, devotional songs, and dances, and finally immersed in a river or sea, symbolizing her departure to Mount Kailash.
Significance of Durga Visarjan

Durga Visarjan is not just about immersion; it holds deep spiritual meaning. It represents the cycle of creation and dissolution, teaching that all forms are temporary, but the divine energy of Goddess Durga remains eternal. The festival also reinforces faith that Maa Durga will return every year to protect her devotees and destroy negative forces.

Many devotees also perform Navratri Parana after Durga Visarjan, marking the completion of their nine-day fasting. Thus, the Durga Visarjan Muhurat is important for both immersion and breaking the Navratri fast.

Durga Visarjan 2025 will be observed on October 2 with the Muhurat from 06:10 AM to 08:35 AM. As devotees bid farewell to Maa Durga, they carry forward her blessings of strength, courage, and protection, awaiting her return in the next Sharadiya Navratri.
