India has a long history of recognizing its cricket players for their outstanding on-field and off-field accomplishments. Notably, several cricket greats have made an effort to motivate young people in a number of ways. They have demonstrated true sportsmanship and made significant contributions to society. The Indian military has also recognized their beneficial impact on Indian society and has granted various Indian cricket stars honorary military posts.

Dhoni received the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army, while Tendulkar received the honorary title of Group Captain from the Indian Air Force (IAF).
