The Asia Cup 2025 group stage encounter between India and Pakistan was a one-sided affair but the actions by Suryakumar Yadav and Co. sent a strong message. This was the first meeting between the arch rivals post Pahalgam terror attack in April, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. Hence, tensions were obvious as many in India even called for a boycott.
India during the match refused to engage in any customary handshake with Pakistan and it snowballed into a massive controversy. The embarrassment forced Pakistan to lodge a protest and match referee Andy Pycroft was also dragged into it with the country's cricket board demanding for his ouster from Asia Cup 2025. Such was the drama, Pakistan even threatened to withdraw from the tournament and their must-win group stage against UAE saw an hour delay due to talks among the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management.
Now we are all set for a second showdown between India and the arch rivals Pakistan, which is scheduled for Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium. And ahead of the match, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has tried taking a possible dig against India over the no-handshake policy.

He shared a picture with Virat Kohli on social media, and called the talismanic batter the "best human being". The picture, which is from the 2016 T20 World Cup, shows Kohli gifting Amir a bat before the match between India and Pakistan at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. “One thing is for sure, Virat is the best player and best human being in Indian cricket history, respect,” Amir wrote on X.

Meanwhile, in another post available on X, Amir can be heard slamming former Pakistan cricketers for their take on the young squad at Asia Cup. "Kuchh logo ko main dekh raha hu apna hi agenda leke baith gaye hain. Yeh kisko leke aaye ho, ye uska muqabla karega? Matlab ki ye log wait kar rahe the ek match hare aur in baccho k peeche padh jaye. (I am seeing a few people have started propagating their own agendas. Why is this player on the team? How does he compete with that player? It is like they were waiting for Pakistan to lose one match to start criticising these youngsters)," Amir said.
