‘Jasprit Bumrah had an off day, even…’: Sanjay Manjrekar emphasizes the gulf between India and Pakistan

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has commended the Men in Blue for their enormous talent depth, pointing out that even on a bad day, India can easily outperform bitter rivals Pakistan.

India, under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, clinched a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in Sunday’s Super 4 clash. While the Indian batting lineup shone, the bowlers struggled, with Jasprit Bumrah ending up as the most expensive among them.

In an Instagram video, Manjrekar emphasized this. “India wasn’t at their best, clearly. I mean, just imagine Bumrah being India’s most expensive bowler. He had an off day, India dropped three catches, so they were well below their best, and despite that, they won comfortably against Pakistan,” he said.

He also emphasized the disparity in quality and depth between the two teams. Pakistan's batting order lacked consistency and dependable players to achieve a manageable total, despite their marginally improved performance from their last match.

“It again shows the big gap between India and Pakistan just on sheer ability and skills. Happy for Pakistan, they were slightly better, so there was some spark there, but you could see how the Indian bowlers still managed to claw things back. Why? Because there wasn't depth of class in Pakistan batting, and in the end, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, the way Tilak Varma finished. It’s just a limitless supply of exceptional players,” Manjrekar said.

He emphasized India's dominance in the T20 format in his closing remarks. “So, yeah, India, even in that match when they were not at their best, still showed all of us how much, how superior they are to Pakistan and what a formidable T20 team India has become.”

World-class depth in both batting and bowling proved crucial in high-pressure matches, as India's triumph once again solidified their status as one of the Asia Cup's most reliable and well-rounded teams.
