Shubman Gill gets into heated discussion with official after controversial run-out

Shubman Gill's innings was abruptly cut short during the Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2025 league match, sparking controversy. After SRH invited GT to bat in Ahmedabad, the skipper led from the front and smashed a stylish 76 off 38 balls before losing his wicket to a controversial run-out decision.

Jos Buttler, his partner then, tried to sneak a quick single after pushing Zeeshan Ansari's flat delivery onto the leg side. Harshal Patel reacted to it quickly and fired a throw towards the wicketkeeper from short fine leg. With Gill racing in, Heinrich Klaasen redirected the ball onto the stumps.

A long review ensued as the ball smashed into the stumps after taking a touch off Klaasen's glove. In an attempt to ascertain whether the glove or the ball broke the bails, TV umpire Michael Gough examined the moment frame by frame. With Klaasen's gloves perilously near the stumps and a clear divergence in the ball's trajectory, the decision was anything but simple. Ultimately the fielding side was given the benefit of doubt. "OUT" flashed on the big screen as GT lost their captain.

When Gill arrived at the bench, his emotion was visible, even though he had just left the field after speaking briefly with the on-field umpire. Gill then engaged in a heated argument with a match official next to the dugout, expressing his disapproval over the decision.

Not only Gill, but Gujarat's backroom crew, including former India spinner Aashish Kapoor, also showed signs of dissatisfaction.

With 10 boundaries and two sixes, Gill's excellent strokeplay was on full display as he easily controlled the game's pace. Sai Sudharsan, who hammered a quick 48, played the ideal foil beside him.

With six victories in nine games, the Titans are now in fourth in the IPL 2025 standings. A victory on Friday will put them at least in second place.
