Dr Manan Vora, an orthopaedic surgeon, took to Instagram to explain how the following five things are probably dirtier than your toilet seat if you don’t disinfect, clean, or replace them regularly. He told Monyecontrol, “Most people think the toilet seat is the dirtiest thing in the house. But here are five everyday items that actually carry more germs".

TV remote

A TV remote is often passed around with oily, dirty hands and almost never cleaned. While it’s touched many times a day, not many people give it the attention it needs.

Cutting board

If a cutting board is not cleaned and dried properly, food residue sticks, making it a breeding ground for bacteria,” Dr Vora told Moneycontrol. Most often, cutting boards are simply rinsed after use, and there are cuts and crevices that are not easy to clean. You can put it in a dishwasher or rinse and scrub it thoroughly.

Smartphones

These are used everywhere; in the washroom, cab, car, and train, and are almost never wiped. The quickest way to ensure that your smartphone isn’t as dirty is by cleaning it with an antibacterial wipe on both sides.

Pillow cover

Pillow covers collect sweat and drool as you sleep, and it stays there if they’re not washed regularly. Dirty pillow covers can cause skin infections and breakouts, especially if you sleep on your side or stomach.

Kitchen sponge

The orthopaedic surgeon said, “A kitchen sponge stays wet, traps food particles, and is the perfect environment for bacteria to multiply.” Studies have shown that sponges become home to harmful bacteria such as Salmonella or Campylobacter, which can cause severe food poisoning.
Several social media users agreed with Dr. Vora.

One of them replied, “It’s a relief that I make sure to disinfect and clean all the items you listed on a daily basis.” Another wrote, “Thanks a lot for this! I’ve already started replacing my kitchen sponge regularly after watching your last reel.” Several others also agreed with him.
