IPL 2025: Both Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) failed to make it to the playoffs in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). And as both teams gear up for their maiden clash in the 2025 edition in Visakhapatnam on Monday, they would look to improve their performances from the last year.
Top players under focus for the match today likely would be:
Jake Fraser-McGurk (Delhi Capitals):
Jake Fraser-McGurk made his IPL debut last year and impressed one and all by scoring 330 runs from 9 matches at an astounding strike rate of 234.05, which included four fifties and a highest score of 84.

That 84-run knock came against Mumbai Indians in Delhi on April 27, 2024. Fraser-McGurk smashed 6 sixes and 11 fours in his knock that came off just 27 balls at a strike rate of 311.11.
In addition to setting the fastest List-A century off 29 balls, Fraser-McGurk also set the fastest hundred in professional cricket by surpassing Chris Gayle's 30-ball T20 century record.
Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals):
Axar Patel played pivotal roles in India winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy and hence his stocks have risen considerably in the Indian cricket team.

Handed over DC captaincy, Axar would be looking to start his stint on a positive note while leading from the front with both bat and ball.
Mitchell Starc (Delhi Capitals):
Aussie left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last season after being bought for Rs 24.75 crore – becoming the most expensive player of the season and justified that price tag with big performances in the semi-final and the final.
Now playing for DC, Starc would be looking to churn out similar match-winning performances.
Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants):
Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player when he was bought by LSG for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction last year.
Now named LSG captain, Pant would be nothing short of desperate to prove himself not only as captain but also as a batsman after the recent snub in the Champions Trophy where he was in the squad but was not selected in the playing XI.
Nicholas Pooran (Lucknow Super Giants):
Nicholas Pooran was the second highest run-scorer for LSG last year with 499 runs from 14 matches and was retained by the Lucknow-based franchise for Rs 21 crore.
Batting in the middle order, Pooran is a key player for LSG, and with his explosive batting, is capable of winning matches single-handedly when chasing and also setting up big totals when batting first.
