PBKS vs CSK, IPL Highlights: Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 18 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at Mullanpur in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
Chasing a daunting 220-run victory target, CSK managed 201/5 in their 20 overs to crash to their fourth defeat in five games in this edition. PBKS climbed to the fourth spot in the points table, while CSK fell to the ninth spot.
Here are the five moments that defined the match:
Priyansh Arya’s majestic ton:

Priyansh Arya smashed his maiden IPL hundred off 39 balls to become the eighth uncapped player to hit a hundred in the IPL. Arya, who opened the innings, kept going for his shots even though Punjab kept losing wickets at the other end. Arya fell to Noor Ahmad after smashing a 103-run knock off 42 balls that was studded with 9 sixes and 7 fours and his ton was the fifth fastest century in IPL history.
Shashank Singh’s support act:
Batting at No. 7, Shashank Singh was the only PBKS batsman to provide support to Priyansh Arya. Shashank hit 3 sixes and 2 fours in his unbeaten 52-run knock that came off 36 balls. Shashank added 71 runs for the sixth wicket with Arya and alongwith Marco Jansen (34*) took Punjab’s score over the 200-run mark.
Shivam Dube’s failure to capitalise:
Shivam Dube played extremely well to score 42 off 27 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 3 fours. But his failure to capitalize on the start and falling to Lockie Ferguson without finishing off the game hurt the CSK run chase. Dube seemed to have lost his touch towards the end of his innings and fell to a knuckle ball from Ferguson to leave CSK at 151/3.
Devon Conway retired out:
Opener Devon Conway top scored for CSK with a 69-run knock that came off 49 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 6 fours. Conway put up a brisk 61-run opening stand with Rachin Ravindra (36). But as the asking run rate started to climb steeply, Conway began to lose his timing and was retired out after 17.5 overs. It looked like CSK had all but lost the game by then and the decision to retire out Conway came a little late.

MS Dhoni's finishing act remains unfinished:
MS Dhoni walked in to loud cheers and standing ovations at the dismissal of Shivam Dube, with all the CSK fans up on their feet hoping for another miracle from the former captain. Dhoni survived a run out chance with Conway as he scampered for a single on the first ball he faced from Ferguson. And then in Ferguson’s next over, Dhoni survived another run out chance only because Marcus Stoinis missed a direct-hit from short third man.
But the vintage Dhoni came to the fore when he smashed Ferguson for two consecutive sixes in the same over. Arshdeep Singh came back in the attack with CSK needing 43 runs off the last 2 overs. On the second ball of the over, Dhoni was dropped by Yash Thakur at backward point. Dhoni again made the most of it by hitting a four and a six in the same over.
Yash Thakur was given the responsibility of defending 28 off the last 6 balls and he dismissed Dhoni on the very first delivery to stun the CSK fans. Yash Thakur was plainly lucky to get Dhoni, though as he bowled a low full toss down the leg side and Dhoni just edged it to Chahal at short fine leg who took a fumbling catch.
Dhoni walked back after scoring 27 runs off 12 balls as another finishing act remained unfinished in this edition of the IPL.
