IPL 2025: He may have been fined twice for his ‘notebook celebration’ by the BCCI, but there is no stopping Digvesh Rathi from doing his signature-style antic after dismissing a batsman. In the Kolkata Knight Riders-Lucknow Super Giants clash at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, Rathi added some innovation to his ‘notebook celebration’ after dismissing opener Sunil Narine.

An unbeaten 36-ball 87 by Nicholas Pooran and a 48-ball 81 by opener Mitchell Marsh  powered LSG to 238/3 after being put in to bowl by KKR. KKR needed a strong start to their run chase and their openers Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock put up a brisk 37-run stand. Narine was especially on the rampage having scored 30 runs off just 12 balls, with KKR at 90/1 after the first powerplay.

LSG captain Rishabh Pant brought Rathi into the attack and the leg-spinner struck on his second delivery when he had Narine caught by Aiden Markram at long-off off a googly. Rathi celebrated again, but this time he didn’t go anywhere close to the batsman and signed on the grass of the ground.

Interestingly, Rathi had declared Sunil Narine to be his idol following the victory over the Mumbai Indians in Lucknow. Rathi was previously penalized 50% of his match fees by the BCCI for his failure to learn from his mistakes and continuing with his notebook celebration while intimidating the batsman he had dismissed.

"This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season, and hence, he has accumulated two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025," BCCI had said in an official statement. It would be interesting to see the BCCI’s reaction, if any, to Rathi’s new innovative celebration.
