Punjab Kings (PBKS) entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction with the biggest purse of Rs 110.50 crore among all ten franchises. The financial advantage worked well for the Punjab franchise at the auction as they signed KKR's title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer for a massive price tag of Rs 26.75 crore. In addition to Shreyas, PBKS solidified their Indian core with star players like Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh for Rs 18 crore each. Both bowlers are one of the highest wicket-takers in T20Is for India and adds plenty of experience in the team's bowling department.
Coming to the overseas department, Punjab were also successful to sign Australia batter Josh Inglis for Rs 2.60 crore at the auction, alongside Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand for his base price of Rs 2 crore. 24-year-old Marco Jansen from South Africa also looked on their priority list as they went on to win a three-way bidding war involving Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians to sign the bowling all-rounder for a price tag of Rs 7 crore. Jansen's entered the auction with a base price of Rs 1.25 crore.
Glenn Maxwell who was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore, was also acquired by PBKS for a price tag of Rs 4.2 crore. Maxwell began his IPL career with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and has also played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). He has also played for the Mumbai Indians. In 134 IPL matches, Maxwell has 2771 runs with a strike-rate of 156.73.
