Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders in the 22nd match of IPL 2024 in Chennai on Monday.
Kolkata Knight Riders will look upon this match as an opportunity to win their fourth straight match and join Rajasthan Royals at the top of the points table. KKR have made a brilliant start to IPL 2024 winning three matches on a trot. They are one of the two teams enjoying unbeaten run in the tournament so far. In their quest for the third IPL title KKR have decimated the sides of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals. They were particularly severe on RCB (chasing 182 in 17 overs) and DC whom they beat by a margin of 106 runs.
Chennai Super Kings are having a topsy-turvy tournament so far. They started magnificently winning their first two ties against RCB and Gujarat Titans, but they lost he plot against DC and SRH.
Chennai faced a double problem in the pace department in the last game. Number one, Mustafizur Rehman who was so incisive, was missing as he returned home to settle visa issue for the World Cup. Number two, their pacer Matheesha Pathirana couldn’t play the game against SRH due to a niggle.
Good news for Chennai is that they may have both pacers back for the game against KKR. Mustafizur, who has taken 7 wickets in 3 games, joined the side on Sunday. Meanwhile Pathirana to is fit now and likely to come back to the starting eleven against KKR. It is important for CSK that Pathirana is fit to play as the impact substitute in the previous game Mukesh Chowdhary conceded 27 runs in just one over.
However, CSK may not be able to play Pathirana if Mustafizur comes back. Their fourth foreign player Moeen Ali took 2 wickets and is likely to contribute with the bat too. Theeksana will likely stay out to accommodate Fizz in the eleven.
KKR don’t have selection issue and are likely to continue with the eleven that took the field against Delhi Capitals.
