The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held "entirely" in India, with the full schedule to be released soon, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has assured cricket fans in the nation. In a report filed by CNBC-TV18, Shah is quoted as saying, “Complete IPL will happen in India only. BCCI is working on the full schedule and will make it public soon."
According to him, the BCCI will closely work with the government and security agencies, aligning with all required protocols and advisories concerning the upcoming general elections. "The Board will review and address any issues about the schedule of the first two weeks. Subsequently, the BCCI will work in tandem with local authorities to finalise the schedule for the remainder of the season, taking into account the polling dates," the BCCI Secretary stated, as per the above-mentioned report.
This comes a day after a Times of India report hinted at the possibility of the tournament being relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with Dubai being highlighted as a favoured venue.
The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which will coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled for the same period.
This year's general elections will span seven phases, commencing on April 19, with the results stipulated to be out on June 4. Meanwhile, the IPL season is set to kick off on March 22 at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In the previous season, CSK emerged victorious against Gujarat Titans in the final, securing their fifth IPL title and equalling the record of the most successful teams in the league's history alongside the Mumbai Indians.mo
