India fast bowler Mohammad Shami tried something unusual in the nets after being excluded from the Asia Cup 2025 squad. The BCCI had announced the 15-member squad along with five standby players on August 19, but Shami’s name was missing from both lists.
Soon after, the veteran pacer began his training for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025, where he will represent East Zone from August 28.
On Instagram, Shami shared a video from his practice session in which he surprised fans by rolling his arm over for a few leg-spin deliveries before returning to his trademark pace bowling.

Shami has been dealing with recurring injury and fitness issues that have kept him away from international cricket in recent months. The Duleep Trophy will therefore be an important step in his road to recovery as he looks to regain rhythm and push for a return to the national side.
Shami no more in India's plans?
Shami not getting picked for the Tests against England and now for the Asia Cup is a clear signal that the selectors are not interested in him. Is it game over for the veteran? No one can confirm that for sure but the situation is not what he would have liked be. He played in the Champions Trophy which India won this year but failed to make an impact like he does. He finished with 9 wickets in 5 matches.
