Suryakumar Yadav withdraws appeal after towel distraction

Indian bowlers dominated proceedings as the Men In Blue launched their Asia Cup 2025 campaign at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday evening. UAE, who were invited to bat first, were all-out for 57, lasting merely for 13.1 overs. All the bowlers chipped in effectively but Shivam Dube in particular left most surprised with his inspiring show.

The all-rounder, who is mostly overlooked in terms of bowling, registered three scalps in two overs while conceding just four runs. His spell also witnessed an interesting moment, which certainly stood out as one of the highlight from the innings.

Bowling the 13th over, Dube welcomed tail-ender Junaid Siddique with a bouncer, which the batter tried to pull despite his face turned away from the ball. On expected lines he failed to make a contact as it travelled to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who collected the ball and threw it at the stumps before breaking out in a stumping appeal.

However, amidst the commotion Siddique was also seen signaling Dube, possibly enquiring about something that may have led to some distractionΒ during his run-up. TV replay confirmed that a towel tucked in Dube's pants had dropped midway in his run-up.

Despite this the appeal was sent upstairs to TV umpires for examination and it showed that the batter was out of the crease when the balls had knocked the stumps. 'OUT'Β flashed on the giant screen but the batter remained firm on the pitch, leading to more confusion.

Later it was clarified that Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav had withdrawn the appeal.Β Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar on commentary noted: β€œThe towel coming off is not relevant. It is just a case of India trying to be nice to the UAE team.”

Despite the retrieve Siddique couldn't do muchΒ and got out two balls later for a three-ball duck.
