In a major development reports have emerged of Shubman Gill set to be appointed as the new ODI captain of India. The fresh development comes on the day BCCI will be announcing the squad for the Australia tour, which features three ODIs and five T20Is.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have been away from the sport, will also be part of the ODI setup, which starts from October 19. Both cricketers announced their retirements from T20Is post the World Cup triumph last year and midway during the IPL 2025 drew curtains on their Test career.

Leading from the front, Gill proved his credentials as a leader as many raised doubts before the team flew for the United Kingdom. Eventually, the five-match series ended in a 2-2 scoreline.
Gill was also appointed as Suryakumar Yadav's deputy in the T20 format in the recently-concluded Asia Cup, which India won.
