IND vs AUS: Jasprit Bumrah shatters Kapil Dev's big Asian record after one-man show in Gabba

India have failed to put a fight at the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy despite the five-match series being levelled at 1-1 at the moment. The team crumbled in Adelaide and it would have been a similar story in Perth if not for Jasprit Bumrah. The 31-year-old, who is already regarded high in cricketing circles, has witnessed significant rise in stature as far as this Indian squad currently in Australia is concerned. The pacer has been remarkable since day one of the tour but has lacked similar support from his colleagues.

If we look at the stats, Bumrah is leading the bowling charts and has scalped 18 wickets so far, which feature two five-wicket hauls. In the ongoing Test at the Gabba, Bumrah scalped six wickets, while the remaining four wickets was shared among his peers Mohammed Siraj (2), Akash Deep and Nitish Reddy (one each).

The excellence of Bumrah saw him shatter India legend Kapil Dev's record as he became the fastest Asian bowler to reach 50 Test wickets on Australian soil. Bumrah achieved the feat in his 10th appearance in the country. Kapil Dev, India's first World Cup-winning skipper, had achieved the feat in his 11th appearance, while Pakistan's Sarfraz Nawaz had done it in 12 Tests.

If we take a look at the overall records, five other legendary bowlers LR Gibbs, SF Barnes, Richard Hadlee, H Larwood and T Richardson had completed the milestone in their 10th appearance. Meanwhile, England's Maurice Tate is the fastest among all, taking just eight matches to account for 50 wickets in Down Under.

Meanwhile, if we look at other stats, Bumrah now has overtaken Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma in the list of Indian pacers with most five-wicket hauls in Tests. Kapil Dev leads the chart with 23 fifers, Bumrah is second and has done it 12 times. Both Zaheer and Ishant have 11 five-wicket hauls under his name.
