The universe could be hiding more secrets than previously thought. A new discovery with NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has presented a mystifying turn of events. Now scientists question whether the whole universe is contained within a colossal black hole.
Galaxies Rotate in One Direction
Researchers from Kansas State University conducted the research. They studied 263 early galaxies, including some that were 300 million years after the Big Bang. The images, taken by the James Webb telescope, revealed a surprising trend.
About 60 per cent of the galaxies seemed to rotate clockwise. That contradicts the theory that galaxy rotations are random. Scientists now hypothesise that there was some kind of hidden force or event that gave this cosmic orientation.
The result suggests more organisation in the universe than thought. It may result in new hypotheses concerning the development of galaxies and what regulates their movement.
New Theory Rocks Older Ideas
The discovery revived a radical concept in physics. Some scientists say our universe may be contained within a black hole. If this is true, it would turn much of what we understand about time, space, and the origin of things upside down.
The theory compels scientists to reframe the way the universe started. It also puts new questions on its potential demise. Current models could require a recasting to accommodate this new perspective.
Precision May Be Compromised
But scientists point to potential flaws in the data. One is the Doppler effect, which has the potential to twist the way galaxy motion seems. That could imply the pattern seen isn't authentic.
Researchers may have to reconfigure the telescope's parameters for clarity. In spite of all this, the research shows that space exploration is important. Using instruments such as the James Webb telescope, we are getting closer to understanding where we fit in the universe.
