Veteran NASA astronaut Sunita Williams is gearing up for a series of spacewalks in 2025. Currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), she is focused on meticulous preparations for the critical missions.
Williams, an experienced astronaut with three spaceflights, spent two consecutive days in the Quest airlock. Her tasks included configuring her spacesuit and inspecting its life support systems. She also swapped data recorder boxes between suits, ensuring all equipment is operational.
The upcoming spacewalk is planned as part of the Expedition 72 crew’s schedule. The team has been actively maintaining scientific equipment, exercise gear, and conducting research. Preparations also involve finalising research samples for return to Earth.
SpaceX Dragon Mission Delayed
The return of SpaceX Dragon, initially set for 6 December, has been postponed. Due to adverse weather near Florida’s coast, it is now scheduled for 12 December. The delay allows for extended solar exposure for the ISS.

Meanwhile, astronauts Don Pettit and Butch Wilmore have been conducting experiments in space physics. Their studies focus on improving disease detection by separating viruses from biological fluids.
Advancing Space Exploration
Williams remains optimistic despite challenges with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft delaying her mission. Her enthusiasm for working in space reflects her deep commitment to exploration. “Space is my happy place,” she has shared in earlier remarks.
The upcoming spacewalks highlight the crew’s dedication to advancing science and exploration. Williams and her team continue to make strides in understanding life in space while preparing for future missions.
