- Married women observe it for their husband’s longevity and happiness.
- This vrat is observed for five continuous days in the Hindu month of Ashadha, starting from Shukla Paksha Trayodashi to Krishna Paksha Tritiya. Devotees often continue this vrat for five, seven, nine, eleven, or even twenty years for continued blessings.
Rituals and Fasting Rules (Jayaparvati Vrat Vidhi)- Dietary Restrictions: During the five-day fast, devotees avoid salt completely. Some even exclude cereals and vegetables, consuming only a satvik diet.
- Sowing of Javara (Wheat Seeds): On the first day, wheat seeds (Javara) are planted in a small pot and placed at the puja altar. This pot is worshipped daily, and the wheat is watered each morning.
- Decorating with Nagla: A necklace made of cotton wool (Nagla) is decorated with kumkum (vermilion) and offered to the goddess as a symbol of devotion.
- Jayaparvati Jagran: On the fifth night, devotees stay awake and perform Jagran—chanting bhajans and aartis throughout the night.
- Ending the Vrat and Immersion of Javara: On the sixth morning, the wheat grass (Javara) is immersed in a nearby water body (river or pond). After performing morning puja, the vrat is concluded with a complete satvik meal including salt, vegetables, and wheat-based roti.
