Dwitiya Shraddha, also known as Dooj Shraddha, is performed for deceased family members who passed away on the Dwitiya Tithi, whether it falls in Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) or Krishna Paksha (waning phase). This ritual is part of the broader Pitru Paksha period, a 16-day period dedicated to honouring and remembering ancestors.

In 2024, Dwitiya Shraddha will be observed on Thursday, September 19. The Dwitiya Tithi begins at 4:19 AM on this day and ends at 12:39 AM on September 20. Families perform Shraddha rituals during this time to ensure peace and contentment for their departed loved ones.

The ideal time to perform Dwitiya Shraddha is during the Kutup Muhurat, Rohina Muhurat, and Aparahna Kala. In 2024, the timings are as follows:

Significance of Dwitiya Shraddha
Dwitiya Shraddha holds immense significance as it is a way to remember and show respect to ancestors. During the ritual, family members offer food, water, and prayers to their deceased relatives. These offerings, known as Tarpan, are believed to appease the souls of the departed and ensure their spiritual well-being.

Performing Dwitiya Shraddha is seen as a duty towards one's ancestors. It is believed that the blessings received during this time bring peace, prosperity, and harmony to the family. Observing Shraddha rituals helps maintain a connection with family traditions and values, fostering a sense of gratitude and respect for those who have passed on

The rituals involve offering Tarpan and Pind Daan to the ancestors. Tarpan is performed by offering water mixed with black sesame seeds, while Pind Daan involves offering rice balls. These rituals are typically conducted by the male members of the family, but in some cases, female members also participate.

It is essential to perform these rituals with devotion and respect. Special foods are often prepared and offered to the ancestors. Observing proper etiquette during the rituals is believed to ensure their success and bring blessings to the family.
