Significance of Dwadashi Shraddha

For Ancestors on Dwadashi Tithi: The Shraddha is performed for deceased family members who passed away on Dwadashi.
For Renunciates: Dwadashi Shraddha is also considered auspicious to honor those who took Sannyasa (renunciation) before their death.
Spiritual Belief: By performing this ritual, families seek forgiveness, peace, and upliftment for the souls of their forefathers. It is believed that satisfied ancestors bless their descendants with prosperity and protection.

Rituals of Dwadashi Shraddha

  • The day begins with a ritual bath and preparation of sattvik (pure vegetarian) food.
  • Shraddha rituals are performed during Kutup, Rohina, or Aparahna Kaal.
  • Offerings include pind daan, tarpan, and feeding Brahmins or needy persons.
  • Food is cooked without onion and garlic, following strict purity rules.
  • The ceremony concludes with tarpan, ensuring ancestors receive water offerings with mantras.
Dwadashi Shraddha and Pitru Paksha

Dwadashi Shraddha falls during Pitru Paksha, the fortnight dedicated to honoring ancestors. Since these Shraddhas are considered Parvan Shraddhas, they must be performed at the right time to ensure maximum spiritual benefit. Performing them with faith not only brings peace to the departed souls but also removes Pitru Dosha (ancestral karmic imbalance).

Dwadashi Shraddha 2025 on 18 September (Thursday) is an auspicious opportunity to express gratitude towards ancestors. Observing Baras Shraddha with devotion during the prescribed muhurat brings spiritual merit, ensures peace for departed souls, and attracts blessings for the family’s well-being.
