Ambubachi Mela 2025 Date: When Will Ambubachi Mela Be Held at Kamakhya Temple in Assam?

The Ambubachi Mela 2025, one of India’s most spiritually significant festivals, will be held at Kamakhya Temple in Assam from June 22 to 26. Dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya’s annual menstruation cycle, this four-day festival draws millions of pilgrims and tantrik sadhaks to the sacred Nilachal Hills in Guwahati. Recognized as a major Shakti Peeth, Kamakhya Temple becomes the focal point of devotion, meditation, and rituals during this time.

Ambubachi Mela 2025 Dates and Rituals

The temple doors will close at the start of the Mela on June 22, symbolizing the Goddess’s rest during her menstrual period. They will reopen on June 26, marking the purification ritual (Snan) and resumption of temple activities. During these days, entry inside the sanctum is prohibited, but devotees gather in huge numbers around the temple complex.

Ambubachi Mela Significance

Ambubachi Mela honors the divine menstruation of Devi Kamakhya, celebrating fertility, womanhood, and Shakti (cosmic energy). Unlike most temples where menstruation is considered impure, Kamakhya stands as a symbol of divine femininity. This belief system breaks taboos and aligns with Tantric traditions, making the Mela unique in the Hindu calendar.

Massive Footfall Expected in 2025

As per Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, over 10 lakh devotees are expected to visit during the Mela, with nearly 20 lakh visitors anticipated after the temple reopens. A dedicated meeting with 24 departments was held in Guwahati to ensure smooth preparations. A budget of Rs 5.4 crore has been allocated for logistics, sanitation, security, and accommodation.

The Assam government, led by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, has invited pilgrims from all over the country to be a part of this grand spiritual event. Minister Dass also mentioned efforts to create a volunteer cell involving non-political organisations to assist and guide visitors. Located 7 km from Guwahati, Kamakhya Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. It is a central hub for Tantric practices, especially during Ambubachi. The temple also hosts other significant rituals like Durga Puja, Durgadeul, Madandeul, Manasa Puja, and Vasanti Puja throughout the year.

Ambubachi Mela 2025 offers a rare glimpse into a powerful blend of faith, energy, and tradition. With large-scale arrangements in place and an open call to devotees, this year’s Mela promises to be both spiritually enriching and culturally vibrant.
