A LinkedIn post by Vibha Gupta has sparked discussion after she detailed why she rejected a job offer, citing the disrespectful behaviour of the company’s CEO during her interview. Gupta described the experience as her first-ever face-to-face interview and shared her reasons for deciding the company was not the right fit for her.
In her post, Gupta outlined several red flags that made her withdraw her application, stating, “Went to give my first ever f2f interview. Things that made me realise it’ll be a mistake to join this company.”
The first issue Gupta encountered was a 15-minute delay by the CEO. Although she was initially understanding, assuming the delay might have been due to urgent calls, subsequent actions made her uncomfortable.
During the interview, the CEO asked if the HR team had sent her an introductory video about the company. When she replied that she had not received one, he called the HR representative into his office and reprimanded them in her presence. Gupta highlighted this moment as a turning point, noting, “No respect towards his employees. While I understand HR made a mistake, it’s disrespectful to scold your employee in front of a stranger.”
Another incident that disheartened Gupta was the CEO’s response to her portfolio. She claimed that he dismissed her copywriting work, comparing it to output generated by ChatGPT. She interpreted this as a lack of respect for her skills and expertise.
Gupta concluded her post by stating that the CEO’s attitude reinforced her decision to decline the role. She wrote, “I agree that he might have worked hard to get there, but man, please be humble and respectful towards people around you. Right after the interview, I messaged HR about what happened in the cabin and withdrew my candidature.”
She expressed no regret, asserting, “He might find someone who’ll be a great fit for his company, but he doesn’t deserve me.”
The post gained widespread traction on LinkedIn, garnering hundreds of likes and supportive comments. Many applauded Gupta for standing up for herself and prioritising her well-being over the job opportunity.
One commenter remarked, “Sounds like a horrible place to work. No amount of money will ever compensate for that.”
Another added, “Withdrawing your candidature was the best decision you could have made. Working in such an environment can be toxic and detrimental to your well-being.”
"100% in agreement. You were lucky - most often these red flags come after you hit the floor. And it’s already quite late," a user commented.
