An MBB consultant from Mumbai recently sought help from the internet after he bagged two job offers -- one that allows him to work from home and be with his family and another that offers better pay but will require him to move to Bengaluru.

Taking to Grapevine, a social media platform for employees of tech companies and startups that permits users to discuss careers and salaries while staying anonymous, user Maverick2298 wrote that he is an IIT-IIM MBB consultant who has four years of work experience and earns about Rs 34 lakh per annum.

He shared that he has recently received two offers and wants help in evaluating them.

"Offer 1: INR 40-43 LPA at an Indian startup in Bangalore. Offer 2: INR 35-37 LPA + equity at a foreign startup with fully WFH (work from home) model," he wrote. "Challenge is my wife also works in Mumbai and hence, relocating to Bangalore will come at a huge cost (financially + mentally). Recent news about Bangalore does not help either."

The consultant added that he was only looking for "some external perspective" as he does not have experience of working with startups or "even switching laterally".

Most people responding to the post appeared to prefer opting for the WFH opportunity in Mumbai.

"WFH for sure. You'll spend that extra hike on living expenses, plus no point leaving family," commented one user.

"I would suggest take WFH if you are living with your family there and the company’s culture is good. You can any day shift to Bangalore at your leisure in case you really want to and in the meanwhile your wife can also find a job. Overall, Bangalore is pretty expensive and the traffic is shit so the incremental money isn’t much relevant," commented another.

Many users also encouraged the MMB consultant to steer clear of Bengaluru due to its existing problems of traffic congestion and frequent water shortages.

"Don't move to Bangalore. It's a shithole. Take WFH and work with the freedom to not get bogged down by an excuse of a city. Visit this trashcan, whenever needed, but don't relocate here. It's sad, bad, and not worth it, at any level," commented user corporateslayer666.

"As much as I love Bangalore, if you have WFH, take it. Traffic here is not worth going to office space," added user tenxengineer.
