Phailin: Bihar on flood alert; Odisha, AP begin rehab

Cyclone Phailin has passed but the worst does not seem to be over. The worry is now shifting to Bihar that has been hit by torrential rains. The Met department has said that most parts of Bihar and Jharkhand will receive mild to moderate rainfall for the next 48 hours.
Bihar has been put on flood alert specially around the rivers Kosi and Gandak. Patna Met Director Ashish Kumar Singh said that North Bihar districts, particularly those in upper catchment area near Nepal will receive heavier rainfall over the next 24 hours that may create a flood-like situation in some districts. A flood scare looms in West Bengal as well as most rivers in West Midnapore are also flowing above the danger mark following the release of water from several dams in Jharkhand. Meanwhile, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are still left with the herculean task of rebuilding the entire districts and rehabilitating victims. The Odisha government has started operations to rebuild Ganjam district, which is the worst affected. Lakhs of residents who were evacuated to shelters are now returning to their homes. Almost 9 lakh people in Odisha are currently in shelters. All they have now is hope that the administration will help in rehabilitating their lives and livelihoods.
