A viral video showing a SereneAir pilot cleaning the windshield of his Airbus A330-200 before takeoff has stirred a heated discussion on social media. The footage, which captures the pilot leaning out of the cockpit window to clear the view ahead, has drawn a range of reactions from the public and raised questions about standard airline safety protocols.
The incident reportedly occurred during an international flight from Pakistan to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. While it is unusual for pilots to personally handle such tasks, the video has sparked a conversation about whether this reflects poorly on the airline or simply demonstrates the pilot’s initiative in ensuring a clear view for takeoff.

Another user added, "Quite common. If pilots wish to do it, it's OK. They can always ask for help, but if someone wishes to do it themselves, it should be fine."
However, not everyone was impressed. One user sarcastically remarked, "I know this pilot; he cleans the windshield and asks the passengers for a tip. Would like to see him do it at 30,000 ft."
“Only happens in Pakistan,” remarked another.
Is it Normal for Pilots to Clean the Windshield?
In most airlines, tasks like cleaning the windshield are typically handled by ground staff or maintenance crews. Pilots are primarily responsible for pre-flight checks, reviewing weather conditions, and ensuring that all systems are functioning properly before takeoff. However, there is no regulation explicitly preventing a pilot from performing this task if they deem it necessary.
While it’s not common, it’s not entirely unheard of for pilots to clean the windshield, especially if they notice something obstructing their view and ground staff are not immediately available.
