Frida, a popular baby care brand in the US, has announced the launch of a breast milk-flavoured ice cream to celebrate the release of its 2-in-1 manual breast pump. In an unusual twist, customers eager to taste the new product will have to wait nine months from the date of the announcement—mirroring the length of a pregnancy.
According to a press release, the company aims to answer a long-standing question: “What does breast milk actually taste like?”
Following the announcement, the news quickly went viral, with many social media users expressing amusement and scepticism. A significant number speculated that the ice cream could be an early April Fools' prank.
One user wrote: “I feel like this was supposed to be announced on April Fools’ Day.”
Another user was less enthusiastic about the concept, commenting: “I’m going to judge anyone that I see buys this.”
However, some defended the idea, pointing out that traditional ice cream is already made from animal-derived milk.
“I mean, why is this so shocking when ice cream is literally made from a cow’s breast milk?” asked a third user.
In response to the growing speculation, Frida confirmed that the product is real and anticipated strong demand from consumers.
Despite its name, the ice cream does not contain actual breast milk, as it is not approved by food regulators in the US. Instead, Frida stated that the ice cream would closely mimic the “goodness” of breast milk, incorporating several key nutrients found in it.
The brand described the flavour as sweet and nutty with a hint of salt and assured customers that it would replicate the texture and nutritional benefits of real breast milk.
“The ice cream will be a pitch-perfect representation of the sweet, creamy, nutrient-packed goodness we've all wanted to try but have been afraid to ask,” the company said.
It also detailed the nutritional profile of the ice cream, highlighting that it would contain:
Fats (including Omega-3, known as “brain fuel”)
Carbohydrates (such as lactose for energy)
Essential vitamins (iron, calcium, Vitamin B, Vitamin D, and zinc)
Hydration elements (high water content similar to breast milk)
Frida encouraged customers to pre-order the dessert on its website, promising a unique experience for those curious about breast milk’s taste.
