Hyderabad police on Tuesday rescued an elderly visually impaired couple who had unknowingly lived for days with their deceased son’s body. The 30-year-old man, identified as Pramod, was found dead at their residence in Nagole, Telangana. According to the police, Pramod died in his sleep around four to five days prior, according to PTI.

The couple, both over 60 and in a semi-conscious state, were unaware of his death and had been calling out to him for food and water without response. Due to their weak voices, neighbours did not hear their calls until they noticed a foul smell and contacted the authorities on Monday. SHO A Surya Nayak of Nagole Police Station reported that officers, upon arrival, provided the couple with food and water before notifying their elder son, who lives elsewhere in the city.

Authorities are considering relocating the couple to an old-age home for ongoing care. Pramod reportedly struggled with alcoholism and had been separated from his wife for about a year, police confirmed. The man’s body was transferred to a state-run hospital for a post-mortem, and a case has been registered as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Tuesday, Hyderabad police arrested a woman, identified as Niharika, for allegedly conspiring in her husband Ramesh Kumar’s murder to inherit his assets valued at approximately Rs 8 crore. The real estate businessman was reportedly killed with the assistance of Niharika’s lover and a friend. Police have apprehended all three suspects and are continuing their investigation into the case.

Ramesh, 54, was reported missing by his wife, Niharika P, weeks prior. On October 8, a charred body was discovered in a coffee plantation near Suntikoppa by Kodagu police. Initial identification efforts were unsuccessful until CCTV footage revealed a red Mercedes-Benz, registered to Ramesh, in the vicinity. With Niharika’s missing person report and the car’s presence on footage, investigators focused on the vehicle, which ultimately connected the body to Ramesh and helped propel the investigation forward.
