This Valentine's Day, computer science and engineering student Dikshita Basu wanted only one thing -- an internship with Zomato. So, she decided to use the day to send the food delivery company a creative internship application.
"This Valentine's Day I want to ask Zomato out, for an Internship. So, to apply... I thought to curate something that is worthwhile," Basu wrote on LinkedIn while posting her application.
Instead of listing her accomplishments and qualifications as internship proposals usually require, Basu's 14-page "Valentine special internship proposal" had suggestions for changes to their app which could improve the user experience -- accompanied with adorable illustrations.
The student from Tamil Nadu's Sathyabama University then proceeded to present some problems with Zomato's app design and ways to solve them - like re-positioning the "Drafts" folder or improving userflow while uploading pictures.
Basu also suggested "Zomato Zing" - 15-second videos of food that can be used to place orders or book a table if they catch the customer's fancy.
She also tagged Zomato Founder Deepinder Goyal, Zomato's CEO of Food Delivery Rahul Ganjoo and Zomato Design Lead Vijay Verma in her post.
The LinkedIn post has since gone viral and has collected more than 10,000 likes and even caught the eye of Ganjoo. "Appreciate the effort Dikshita Basu! We’ll be in touch shortly," he commented.
The post also seems to have opened new avenues for Basu as other companies too showed interest in having her onboard. Raj Madhuram, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of C1X Inc., California, wrote, "Hi Dikshita. This is wonderful! Please continue ordering biriyani from Zomato, but come and work with us :) We have many openings and would like to discuss with you."
Laxman Singh, fonder of Bitbatua, said, "What a pitch Dikshita Basu, I hope Zomato will reach out to you soon after reading this if haven't yet. In case, Crypto space excites you, and you wanna marry crypto then please choose Bitbatua your banquet hall. We are super impressed with your content and creativity."
Anshul Rustaggi, Founder at Totality Corp, commented, "I am sure Zomato would answer your Valentine call if they haven’t already, but if you ever want to explore the Web3, NFT space, please do give Totality Corp and Zionverse a chance to take you out on an interview date."
While for now, Basu does seem to have her heart set for Zomato, the internet is waiting to see if she really does bag the internship.
