Back in 2011, Rohit Sharma, then 24, was left out of the World Cup team leaving the batter sidelined. He had a shoulder injury several months ago and he had recovered, but his selection into the squad still didn’t come through. Sharma eventually started opening for India in 2013.

In the post-match presentation on Wednesday, Sharma reflected on the intense clash against New Zealand and was critical saying although the team was calm, they were “a bit sloppy on the field.”

Addressing the challenges faced during the game, he remarked, "I have played a lot of cricket here, any score on this ground, you cannot relax. Got to get the job done quickly and stay at it. We knew there would be pressure on us."

He also lauded the performances of the team, highlighting the contributions of emerging talents like Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill apart from Mohammad Shami who took a remarkable 7 wickets in the match.

Virat Kohli broke two records of Sachin Tendulkar, swinging away 50 ODI centuries and breaking the latter’s 2003 World Cup tally of 673 runs.

He also commended and Kohli's century saying, “Kohli did what he does, also got to his landmark century as well.”

India has qualified for the World Cup finals with no losses in the tournament.
