Gambhir draws flak for commentating on India-Pak match despite calling for boycott

Some users pointed out that the East Delhi MP should pay more attention and devote more time to his responsibilities and duties as a parliamentarian

In the recently-concluded cricket match where India defeated Pakistan in England, locking in a 7-0 record against the arch-rivals in World Cups, new parliamentarian Gautam Gambhir was seen commentating.

With rains dampening the spirit of the eager audience every now and then, expert analysts of the game regaled the audience while taking over much of the screen time too. However, the former opening batsman drew major flak on social media platforms for agreeing to participate in the exercise.

While some users pointed out that the East Delhi MP should pay more attention and devote more time to his responsibilities and duties as a parliamentarian, others admonished him for making extra money by commentating on the game.

Some other netizens also pointed out how Gambhir had backtracked on a call for boycotting matches against Pakistan. After the Pulwama fidayeen attack on February 14, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP suggested the national cricket team to boycott the Pakistan cricket team. Yet, he chose to commentate on the World Cup match; this “double standard” irked many Twitter users.
