Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that he never could have imagined where he is today during his childhood days spent at the railway platform.
Addressing leaders in parliament building on the opening day of the special session, PM Modi recalled the first time he entered Parliament House and called his entry into the house "an emotional moment". "First time when I entered parliament as MP, I bowed my head and it was an emotional moment. I had never imagined a man who spent his life on the railway platform will become PM of the country, but this is the strength of the Indian democracy," PM Modi said in parliament on Monday.
In his speech, the Prime Minister also praised the recent success of Chandrayaan-3 mission and the successful conduct of the G20 summit and said that the success of the latter made him emotional.
PM Modi also recalled the historic moments witnessed at the existing Parliament House and recalled the speech made by India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru when India attained Independence on August 15, 1947.
He also recalled some of the other key issues that were discussed inside the parliament house such as GST, OROP and abrogation of Article 370. PM Modi also said that the work done by parliament staff members must not be forgotten and they ensured there was never a mistake made in the delivery of governance.
