The CEO of Noida Authority recently punished his employees for making an elderly man stand for one hour to get some paperwork done. Lokesh M made his staff stand for 20 minutes while they worked. A video of the incident is viral on social media.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the senior citizen had visited the residential plot department of the Noida Authority at sector 6 for some documentation regarding property transfer and was made to wait even when the staffer responsible for the work sat idle. The department has CCTV cameras installed so when Lokesh noticed what was happening, he sent a message directing the staffer to resolve the issue on priority. But, the staffer continued to cause delays, prompting a visit from the CEO.
“I noticed through CCTV that one of our staff members was sitting idle, without bothering to attend to the visitors properly. I saw a senior citizen standing for over an hour and the staff was not addressing his grievances," Lokesh told the publication. “I sent a message asking him to tend to the issue without delay. But still the senior citizen remained standing as the staff wasn’t resolving the issue related to property transfer."
He then made the staff work for 20 minutes while standing.
“I visited this section and directed the entire staff to stand for 20 minutes while attending to the visitors," Lokesh said.

Several social media users praised Lokesh for punishing employees who harassed citizens in an office that sees a footfall of around 1,000 people daily. Others pointed out that the work culture needs to change.
The CEO did a commendable job," commented Abhimanyu Singh (@Abhimanyu1305).
"Did this solve the problem for the elderly man? No," wrote Rishi Choudhary (@RishiRahar). "Nothing will be achieved by working while standing for 30 minutes. There is a need to change the work culture. The staff needs to be made sensitive. Along with making them responsible, the fear of the law also needs to be instilled in them. Two or four underperforming employees will also have to be thrown out."
The move prompted now-viral video shows all the staff members standing and working as a punishment for failing to properly attend to visitors seeking assistance with property-related matters.
