A businessman in Mumbai died of a heart attack during a Zumba session. Kavaljeet Singh Bagga collapsed at a fitness centre in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and was declared brought dead when rushed to a hospital.

A video of the incident is viral and it shows Bagga taking a break from the class and stepping aside in visible discomfort before collapsing.

The people at the fitness centre rushed him to the hospital but Bagga's conditioned worsened and he was declared brought dead, the Times of India reported.

Several celebrities have died in a similar fashion over the last few years. In November 2022, television actor Siddhaanth Surryavanshi collapsed in the gym and died. In October 2021, superstar of the south Indian film industry Puneeth Rajkumar collapsed in the gym and died on his way to the hospital.

In July 2022, television actor Deepesh Bhan, popular for his character of Malkhan in the sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, worked out at the gym in the morning and stopped to play cricket in his building's compound where he collapsed and died.

In India, the prevalence of heart attacks during exercise has become a matter of concern.

According to recent data from Pathkind Labs, a leading diagnostics provider, intense physical activity can significantly raise the risk of heart attacks, especially in individuals who may already have underlying heart conditions. The research indicates that the likelihood of experiencing a heart attack during exercise is higher for certain demographics, including individuals over the age of 45 and those with a family history of heart disease. Also, those who are overweight, have high blood pressure, or suffer from diabetes are all at greater risk than those who don’t have any of these conditions.

Several factors contribute to heart attacks during workouts. One of the primary causes is the sudden increase in heart rate and blood pressure during strenuous activities. This can put excessive strain on the heart, particularly if the individual is not accustomed to intense exercise or if they have an undiagnosed heart condition, experts stated.
