Small town India is always full of stories of hard work and dedication, coupled with juggling multiple tasks in a bid to help make ends meet.

A man recently met someone belonging to that category of the population in Patna in Bihar where an Uber driver was pursuing an 18-month Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) course on edtech platform Unacademy after having completed a Masters degree in Geography.

"My under-25 Uber driver in Patna. MA in geography with NET. Some idea of GIS. But upward mobility is still Govt job. Paid ₹60k for an 18 month Unacademy UPSC prog. Online subscriber of The Hindu. Watches Prime & Netflix. Only question: Why are there no factories in Bihar?" the man wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

He also questioned as to why Bihar did not have sufficient number of factories to offer jobs to those with aspirations to work.

The man's post saw a lot of replies from users, who gave their reasons behind the lack of industrial development in the state.

"Industrial expectations for Bihar are misplaced. It’s a landlocked area and its major rivers have not much water. For such states, a new outlook is needed. However, much respect and wishes for the guy who is not losing hopes and catching whatever opportunities coming in his way," one user wrote.

"One key problem - formal degrees without language skills, life skills and other skills in demand in a ruthlessly competitive globalised market will not translate into decent jobs," another user wrote.

"This results from successive governments failing to attract investment, all investors meet and MoUs have largely remained on paper in Bihar. Telecom grew, thanks to the connectivity needs. Unless physical infra, law & order improve, no company will come to Bihar," a third user wrote.
