Indian billionaire Harpal Randhawa and his 12-year-old son Amer were among the six killed in a plane crash in Zimbabwe on Friday. Reports said that the crash took place near a diamond mine in the Zvamahande area of Mashava, situated in the southwestern part of the country, due a technical fault.

Sharing the news of Randhawa and his son's death in the early hours of Monday, filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono said that the family had kept a memorial service on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Friday when Randhawa and his son were flying from Harare to the Murowa diamond mine. The aircraft encountered a technical fault which could have caused the mid-air explosion.

The flight eventually plummeted into Peter Farm in the  Zvamahande region and the four others on board, along with Randhawa and his son also died in the accident.

Randhawa was the owner of RioZim, a mining firm that produced coal, gold as well as refining copper and nickel. At the time of his death, he was also serving as the Chairman of the GEM Group.

Before joining the GEM Group, Randhawa was a partner at Sabre Capital Worldwide for 12 years, from 2002 to 2014.
