Actor Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira married longtime boyfriend Nupur Shikhare in Mumbai on Wednesday. The couple’s wedding was held at Taj Land Ends in Mumbai’s Bandra. The ceremony was attended by close friends and family members.
The superstar’s daughter's wedding created a flutter on social media. While Ira wore an embroidered dhoti set with a dupatta on her head, Shikhare ditched the traditional sherwani and opted for a black vest with a pair of shorts instead.
Shikhare, who is a celebrity fitness trainer, jogged from his house in Santacruz to the wedding venue. Several videos of the same went viral on the internet as well.
The fitness trainer made an entry enthusiastically dancing to dhol beats in the vest and shorts as well. Needless to say that the groom’s interesting choice of clothing created quite a stir on social media and sparked a flurry of confused reactions, especially on X. Some people even loved his attire and shared their thoughts.
“This guy, Nupur Shikhare, jogged from Santacruz to Taj Land Ends for his wedding with Aamir khan’s daughter, Ira Khan — wearing what you see him wearing. Now it might seem all eccentric and cool to her right now. But five years down the line, she will hate him for it. They will have the pettiest arguments concerning shared bathrooms or dining venues (or whatever it is that couples argue about) and she will finally break loose in a fit like SHUTUP YOU DIDN’T EVEN DRESS UP FOR OUR WEDDING,” a user wrote.
Another user commented, “Aamir khan’s movies usually involved a poor guy working in a garage marrying a rich girl. The grooms outfit here giving the vibes that he is coming after repairing Malhotra sahab’s Mercedes.”
Some people were also reminded of Aamir Khan’s iconic film after looking at Shikhare. “Aamir wanted to know the price of his son-in-law's sherwani, so he applied green chutney on it and pressed it with a steam iron,” a third user remarked.
A fourth user added, “My brother didn't even bother to put on a shirt. Itni jaldi thi shaadi ki (He was so eager to get married).”
Another person added, "The Chad #NupurShikhare has given sleepless nights to these girls who dreamt of wearing a 5 lakh lehenga having Reel'd wedding. Doing a jog for the day and then arriving at function, Nupur has given a message that health is first, marriage is second."

Gettin’ married in running gear just because ‘my life my rules’ is downright disgusting. I can’t even look at him man, how the hell this girl went ahead..Love could be blind but dressing sense blind, oh boy.#IraKhan #NupurShikhare

Imagine if every groom or bride took a cue from Amir’s son-in-law Nupur Shikhare and turned up at their wedding in jogging shorts! An entire industry that survives on 3 lakh Shervani and 15 lakh lehenga that you wear just once will come crashing down.— Ray Stings (@Purba_Ray) January 4, 2024
