'Volunteer beat will bridge gap between people and police, and help curb crimes'
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda made headlines last Saturday after the department announced that police-public beat system would be re-introduced to reduce and prevent house break-ins, vehicle theft, and robberies. The initiative is already in force in areas like Vijayanagar and Chandra Layout as a pilot project, The Hindu reported.
“The implementation of a volunteer beat requires public cooperation, so as to solve cases of robbery and burglary at night," he was quoted by The New Indian Express as saying.
He also asked jewellers to dial 112 if they notice anyone suspicious, either visiting their shops or lurking nearby. The top cop assured that action would be initiated against potential suspects.
