Music composer Sachin Sanghvi of Sachin-Jigar duo arrested after alleged rape allegations by 29-year-old woman, released on bail

Sachin Sanghvi, 45, one of the popular Bollywood music-composer duo Sachin-Jigar, has been booked for alleged rape following a complaint filed by a 29-year-old woman. According to a report in India Today, Sachin was reportedly arrested after a case was registered. However, he was released on bail shortly.

A senior police officer said, “A rape case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC. The accused was arrested and released on bail as the investigation continues.” The police have reportedly collected evidence from the studio and are verifying the timeline provided in the complaint.

According to police reports, the incident allegedly occurred after the composer promised to give her work in a music album and marry her.

Police said the young woman, a resident of Vile Parle, approached them with a detailed statement.

“The accused lured the victim with offers of professional opportunities and marriage, then sexually assaulted her multiple times,” the FIR reportedly states. The Santacruz Police registered the case and arrested Sanghvi. However, he was later released on bail.

The FIR mentions that the survivor and Sanghvi first came in contact on Instagram in February 2024, when the composer sent her a message offering to collaborate on an album. After exchanging phone numbers, they began communicating regularly. The woman claimed that Sanghvi called her to his recording studio to discuss work. During their meeting, he allegedly proposed marriage and later sexually assaulted her under that pretext.

According to the complaint, the assaults allegedly happened repeatedly, and the woman later became pregnant.

She also accused the composer of forcing her to terminate the pregnancy. When Sachin Sanghvi allegedly stopped responding to her calls and messages afterward, she filed a formal complaint at the Vile Parle Police Station.

Lawyer Aditya Mithe, representing Sachin Sanghvi, issued a statement.

"The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated. There are absolutely no merits to the case. My client’s detention by the police was illegal and that is the reason why he was released on bail immediately. We intended to defend all allegations fully and unequivocally,” said Mithe.

Sanghvi, originally from Gujarat, has been active in the Hindi film industry for over two decades. Along with his partner Jigar Saraiya, he has composed music for several hit Bollywood films including Oh My God, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, ABCD, Himmatwala, Go Goa Gone, Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story, and Shuddh Desi Romance. The duo has also collaborated with leading composers like A.R. Rahman, Amit Trivedi, Anu Malik, Nadeem-Shravan, and Sandesh Shandilya.

Before forming his partnership with Jigar, Sachin worked under renowned music director Pritam as an assistant. Their collaboration eventually led to the creation of the Sachin-Jigar team, which went on to deliver numerous chart-topping soundtracks.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and statements from witnesses and studio staff are being recorded. No official response has yet been issued by Sachin Sanghvi or his representatives.
