Airports across several leading cities in India are undergoing widespread changes as authorities look to find new ways to improve traveller experience at these locations.

In 2020, Hyderabad became the first Indian city to introduce Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled smart trolleys at its airport, which assisted travellers in tracking and maintaining the availability of baggage trolleys in real time.

"Trolley management and replenishment will be based on the requirement at various areas across the airport enhancing efficiency and passenger experience while making way for smooth operations as well,"  the airport had said in a statement.

Three years since the introduction of the smart trolleys, Anand Mahindra was left impressed with the feature at the Hyderabad airport and asked whether an Indian airport was the first globally to have brought in such a feature.

"That is pretty cool. I’ve never encountered such trolleys in overseas airports. But I may be wrong. Are we truly amongst the very first to introduce these?" Mahindra wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, with a video on how to use the smart trolleys, attached to the post.

"Dear Sir, your keen eye is spot on. We're thrilled to pioneer these cutting-edge trolleys, adding a dash of innovation to the travel experience. Consider it our way of setting the trend globally," the airport wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Other users also praised the use of technology at the airport.

"Soon India will leave behind the USA in technology. Delhi , Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, airports are becoming the busiest airports in South Asia," one user wrote.

"Airports like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore should introduce such smart things that will be cost effective and zero labour," another user wrote.
