The uncertainty around cricketer Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal’s wedding has turned into one of the most closely followed off-field stories of the year. What should have been a straightforward celebration has spiralled into a prolonged period of silence, health scares, emotional strain, and now, growing speculation.
Through all of it, one voice trying to calm the noise is Palash’s mother, Amita Muchhal, who insists she has not lost hope.
The wedding was set to take place in Sangli, Maharashtra, but the plan was shattered at the last moment, when Smriti Mandhana’s father suffered heart attack- just hours before the ceremony.
The emergency forced the families to postpone the nuptials indefinitely. Soon after, the stress reportedly took a toll on groom-to-be Palash’s health as well, who had to be admitted to a hospital before being discharged and shifted to Mumbai.
Even with both men now out of immediate danger, neither family has announced a new date or fresh schedule. That silence has fuelled rumours across social media, especially after Smriti removed all wedding-related posts from her accounts. For weeks, fans have questioned whether the ceremony will happen at all.
Amid this swirl, Amita Muchhal has stepped forward to defend both families and soften the narrative. In a conversation with Hindustan Times, she admitted that the situation has hurt both Smriti and Palash deeply.
“Smriti and Palash dono takleef mein hain,” she said, adding that the unexpected health crisis and the emotional shock on the wedding day were overwhelming for everyone involved.
She also shared that Palash had been excited to bring his bride home. “Palash dreamt of coming home with his bride. I had even planned a special welcome. Everything will be fine, shaadi bohot jaldi hogi,” she said, holding firmly onto optimism.
Amita also clarified that the postponement is strictly because of the back-to-back medical emergencies. She believes that once both families recover from the emotional and physical strain of the last-minute crisis, the celebrations will resume as planned. According to her, “Everything will fall into place soon.”
Meanwhile, support within the cricketing fraternity has also drawn attention. Team India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has reportedly withdrawn from the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) to remain close to Smriti during this period, triggering more curiosity around what might be unfolding privately.
